As a patriotic citizen of Nasarawa State who desires progress and development for the state, I deem it necessary to write you this open letter.
Today as a stakeholder in the Students and Youth Movement in Nasarawa State and Nigeria by extension, I wish to write and brief you on an emergency that occurred concerning some of the citizens you are governing. I’m sorry if I skipped the protocols. I felt it’s necessary to and I believe after reading this letter, you will know where I am heading.
On Friday 6th September, 2013 we woke up to the sad and shocking news from Nasarawa Broadcasting Service in Lafia that the national body of Nasarawa students, Nasarawa State Students Association (NASSA) had been dissolved unconstitutionally by Kasim Muhammed Kasim (SA on Students Matters), Nasarawa State Commissioner of Higher Education and Director Students, Ethics and Value, Hajiya Rekiya Jibrin Ali for their selfish personal interest.
Out of Mr Kasim’s desperation to show to the whole state that he is in charge of the students’ structure he chose to constitute an illegal caretaker Committee (CTC) that will run the activities of Nasarawa State Students Association for the next one year without election.
Your Excellency Sir, the past and present Student leaders in the state are not convinced with the unilateral decision of Mr Kasim, and as such are planning to lead a protest against the APC led Administration in Lafia, the capital city of Nasarawa State if the new date of election is not communicated to all the aspirants in the next 24 days.
It is the highest height of desperation if it is true, as claimed in a report by some peace loving Nasarawa State Student leaders, that out of your desperation to return in 2015 to Nasarawa State Government House, you want to hijack the students’ structure before the next general election. If that report is true then, one can say it is anti-democratic, imperious and smacks of desperation of a man that was widely voted in by the citizens of Nasarawa State in the 2011 general election.
My piece of advice here is that the Nasarawa State government should as a matter of emergency call Mr Kasim Muhammed Kasim to order before he dents the good image of Nasarawa State. The government should provide the necessary information to all the aggrieved contestants, demand for a thorough and Independent Electoral Committee NOT caretaker committee to conduct a fresh election into the various offices with immediate effect.
Be aware Mr Governor that even though Mr Kasim is representing students in your government, he has no control over them.
Your Excellency sir, I want to use this platform to draw your attention to the recent crisis in the National Youth Council of Nigeria where the former Minister of Youth Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkari unilaterally selected some youth leaders in Makurdi, Benue State without election and the knowledge of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR and the Youth Leaders later turned against Mr President which led to the sack of the then Minister of Youth. I am afraid the same thing might happen in Nasarawa State under your watch.
With all due respect sir, issues that has to do with students like this are worth your time and energy far more than this APC and PDP palaver that seems to have taken away all your attention.
Your Excellency, if these aforementioned are done, In Shaa Allah, I can assure you that you may have 80% of total votes in Students Community come 2015 governorship poll. God Bless Nasarawa State and God Bless Nigeria.
I remain your feisty, dogged and committed Comrade Ibrahim Kabiru Dallah, Students Ambassador/Former Assistant Secretary General, NASSA, For: Concerned Former Student’s Leaders. Writes from Lafia, Nigeria. 11th November, 2013, 08035166981 (SMS only) @ik_dallah on twitter.Follow @SpeshsWorld
